Any tips for a recent college grad on finding a job?
Asked by emilonsoundsgood
I just graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration with a major in Management and a minor in Marketing. I have 2 years of management-type experience. I have interviewed with at least 15 companies and none of them have worked out. I have posted my resume on Yahoo! HotJobs, Monster, and CareerBuilder. So far, the only respone I've gotten from those sites are constant calls from insurance companies. Anyone have any ideas?

If you've gotten 15 interviews, it sounds like your resume and experience are at least getting you in the door. I would then focus on your interview skills. There should be placement services in your area that may help you with that. Remember: Dress professionally, be on time, and -most importantly- never say anything negative about a previous employer no matter how bad they were. Interviews are all about selling yourself. The best salesperson with the most confidence wins.

Talk to your instructors; maybe they have some leads. (Hopefully you cultivated a good relationship with them when you were in school!) Networking can also help. Are there any marketing organizations you can join? Or any other groups?

Well another great site is craiglist.org, they list plenty of great jobs. You can't list your resume on there, but they give email addresses to lots of great jobs not listed on the other websites. Also, did your school require you to do an internship. Those are great steps through the front door. I don't know what you want to use your degree for, but Temp Agencies are always hiring for recruiters. The average start out pay is about $28,000 and can top out at $100,000. In this position, you can utilize your management, marketing, and business law skills. You may want to use a position like this for entry-level, or who knows you may just like it. Don't be afraid to use your schools job placement office. The more they see your face, the more they know you want to get you career started. Just remember that looking for a job/career is a job within itself. You will need lots of patience. You may want to even try a temp agency to see if they can place you somewhere also. Good Luck and don't give up.

www.USAJOBS.gov Work for the federal government. There are literally thousands of jobs offered today. You can work in nearly any field. You can also work for the federal government with most agencies in every state and around the world. On the front page you will find a link to a skill assessment center. It is kind of fun.
