Having trouble at work?
Asked by Faith
I have been working at this company for a year now. My position at work is customer service/Sales Support. I have to manage sales also. One of the sales rep is such an Ahole its not funny. When he doesn't get things his way he wines. Sometimes I just ignore it but other times I raise my voice. As you can see we don't get along. I also have a boss who is a control freak. I have controlled myself to a point. But matter what I do in my position I am always wrong. Sending emails to customers or even speaking on the phone. No matter what I do it is always wrong unless my boss has done it or the other women who have been there for 10 years. I need help please! I do like what I am doing but how could I make my boss see that I am not dumb and get along with everyone there.

You're going to either have to change what you're doing or leave the job. Here's what I would do: 1) Talk to your boss about how you feel -- concentrate on the fact that you want to be good at your job and you want to learn from him/her and your co-workers. Ask for constructive criticism about how you can do your job better... where to start. 2) Think of your boss as your ally against the problem -- use his/her advice to make positive changes in how you perform your everyday work. 3) Ask for help in setting attainable and measurable goals so that you and he/she know you're progressing. Check in on those goals and set new ones as you achieve them. I think if you did these things, you may find a better work environment. P.S. You can also ask for help in dealing with the jerky sales rep. The trick is to ACT on the advice that you get and try hard to take a different approach in the future. You will never change the people you work with -- you can only change yourself. BEST OF LUCK!!!!!

Accept the fact that you can't change anyone but yourself. Then, either suck it up and let the other crap go or look for another job. There are some bosses who are simply jerks. You have to decide if he's worth the paycheck. If he's not, move on -- there also some great bosses out there.
