Transferring Jobs in the same company - HELP ?
Asked by CJ&Drewsmomma
Okay, I've been with my employer for 2 and a half yrs. I started out as a Customer Service Representative in April of 2006 - in january of 2008 they promoted me to Customer Service Representative/Sales Support which basiclly was an assistant to my supervisor (the office manager) and I've been there since. I took Accounting in college for 1 semester right after HS and haven't had the opportunity to finish - well, I just found-out yesterday that at work we have an AR position that is opening up on the 26th of this month, and I want to tell them I'm interested, but I'm scared to. How do I go about telling them I'm interested in the position?

Best Answer:
JUST TALK TO THE PERSON IN MANAGEMENT THAT IS CLOSEST TO YOU AND GO FROM THERE. SOUNDS LIKE THEY LIKE YOU IF YOU WERE ALREADY ONCE PROMOTED. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY

If you are already in the company you have your foot in the door. It is likely they will pick someone inside the company for the position so why not you. Check with HR if your company has an HR department. Otherwise find out the hiring manager's name and take your next coffee break over there to see what the job is about.

casually mention to your supervisor about the job criteria and see what he/she says and just say you would be interested in applying and see what happens most companies would rather promote in house sometime than advertise outside go for it and good luck

A:
Apply for it. That tells them you are interested without any kind of production that makes you look desperate, scared or confused. Once you apply, you will get an interview. During that interview you will be able to address the issues you are concerned about with them one on one, in a much more relaxed environment. It's great you are interested, but they will take applications, so put one in.
