Career Questions and Answers
Top/Best career's for the future?
Asked by tornado_adz
So, im just trying to get some opinions and/or facts regarding jobs for the future.
I currently work on a mine site (nickel) and though it is lucrative at the moment (and i dont really enjoy assiting the pollution cause) i dont see it being this way for much longer considering we are and should be going towards greener alternative energy.
So, anyone got any suggestions for myself regarding a new career possibly involving alternative energy or something similar regarding good careers over the next 20-50 years.
And any extra info such as how to attain a qualification or how to get into the industry in Australia would be great. Thanks.

Don't jump off of the bandwagon so quick. Just because the media talks about the change to alternative energy don't think it will be an overnight thing. It will take decades for other forms of energy to be as monetarily efficient as is current forms. New technology and R&D is expensive. However, I am currently in construction and doing pretty well, in a bad economy, so the media is not always right and uses scare tactics sometimes. In my current area the actual economy's numbers show growth last year but if you just read or watched the news you would think unemployment is at 25%.
If you are doing well now and have good chance for progress, you are doing well. However, if you don't like your job, trade work is the best way to go. Concrete contracting(me), dirt work(earth moving), plumbing(new), electrical are all good and profitable. Plumbing and electrical will take you, either knowing someone or getting your masters license so you or someone with the license and certified in your area can sign off on your work. However, with concrete and earth moving you need to have some serious money to front the start of your company and good business sense, because although you can make tons of money, you can loose tons of money and insurances are very high.
Hope this helps and I do commercial and residential structural and aesthetic concrete contracting.

I would recommend trying to get into a building trade-such as plumbing, refrigeration,or engineering.
