As you probably have already gathered, massage therapy can be a very rewarding career. Also, as with any jobs there are pros and cons. Pros: -You can set your own times (schedule) -You can help others achieve wellness and relaxation -A great opportunity to network within your community -Can be a wonderful supplement to other jobs Cons: -Although money is nice, but you will never be a millionaire unless you invent a new massage technique or a very successful chain of clinics -A lot of physical exertion -Income is based on volume of clientele -Sometimes you may massage people you are uncomfortable with -Because massage is not entirely mainstream yet people may get the "wrong idea" of what you do Eva Avery, LMT Massage Therapist Owner, Mind Body and Soul Massage www.mbs-massage.com

Pro's: You meet and help a lot of nice people. You can build up a clientele list and earn up to $50 hr. if you're good. Con's: You are on your feet a lot, bent over a lot, and putting a lot of pressure and strain on your hands, fingers, neck, back and shoulders. You wear your body out faster than the people you are massaging. Average person lasts 10 - 15 years maximum, and then comes old age.

There are many on both sides. It all really depends on what you are passionate about and want to pursue. Do as much research as you can. Go and get a dozen or so massages and talk to the therapists about what it is like.

Males have a particularly hard time in the massage field. My business partner is a male who has been massaging for only 2 years and is already looking for something else to do because of the difficulties. Neither male nor female clients want male massage practitioners. Male clients don't want another man touching them, and females have heard or experienced horror stories involving male practitioners molesting them. Every single male practitioner I know has been accused of sexual harassment by a female client AND has experienced employment discrimination. 50% have been asked for happy endings by other MALE clients. My own brother attempted suicide after suffering 6 months of being falsely arrested and criminal court proceedings. Eventually the woman confessed she lied and all charges were dropped, but it was too late. It ruined his life. I wouldn't even consider it if I was male!
