Can I receive unemployment as a part-time laid off student?
Asked by shd123
I worked full time from October 2008 to July 2009 and then decided to move to a part-time position at the same company while pursuing my Master's degree. I worked part time from July 2009 until the end of September and was then laid off due to budget cuts. Does anyone know if I am eligible for unemployment even though I am a student and voluntarily moved to part time before being laid off? Also, my employer gave me two weeks notice so I will not officially be unemployed until October 9 and will then be out of the country for 11 days following. When should I actually fill out the unemployment paperwork? Thanks for any help!

You need to check with your state's dept. of labor on the internet. Each state is different. Also, you need to have made a certain amout of $ while you worked in order to qualify. Since you worked only part time, you may have not made enough $.
