What is a good career change for a person with massage therapy background?
Asked by Dianne S
With this economy, the massage industry has really taken a hit. Also, I'd just like to continue my education. I would like to be able to use the experience I have from being a massage therapist for over 10 years in my next career. I don't know which direction I should go?

A hospital. Healthcare institutions are basically less recession-prone.
A fitness center that offers spa and massage treatments as well.

Get trained to work as (or for) a physical therapist. To be a physical therapist, you need additional schooling but to work for one, you do not.

Physical therapy is certainly a suggestion...but it's a big expense for education...6-7 years. Certainly, it's worth it, but can be tough financially. If you are looking to get employment sooner, what about a physical therapist assistant? Two year degree, many opportunities for stable employment.

Nowadays people are really looking forward and making there massage therapy careers expand with even more CEU's and with allowing more variety it brings in several more clients. I am a LMT from Connecticut and I have found that the field is growing over. But if you would like to change your career path I suggest Physical Therapy. Its an excellent skill to know what muscles are where. Basically the experience with Anatomy, Kinesiolgy, etc. makes your eligibility of becoming a successful physical therapist very great. :-)
