AdBrite was developed to address a need: how can a publisher provide advertisers access to their valuable visitors and easily monetize their site?  Philip Kaplan began to solve that problem in 2002, allowing advertisers to serve ads on his highly-visited sites.  Sequoia Capital quickly saw the potential in this model and invested in AdBrite in 2004. Subsequent backing has come from top venture capital firms DAG Ventures and Mitsui Ventures.
