About Wurzburg, Inc.

Wurzburg, Inc. traces its corporate history to 1908 when the Dillow Woods Company began by supplying Memphis businesses essential oils and flavorings.  In 1909, the Tennessee legislature voted to ban the production of alcohol beginning in 1910.  That year, a young salesman named Seymour Wurzburg was hired by the Dillow Woods Company to expand its offering and sales.  When the hundred or so distilleries in the state were forced to move production to neighboring states, Seymour began to supply distilleries in the region with its bottles, corks, cartons, and boxes.  He became so successful that he bought the company from the Rosemore family in 1912.  The company became a prosperous regional company but was shaken by the early death of Seymour in October 1917.  His oldest son, Abe, resigned his job at the Specialty Manufacturing Co. and took over his father’s company January 1, 1918.

One year later, nationwide prohibition was instituted via the 18th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.  Abe Wurzburg was forced to expand its packaging sales to regional cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and other manufacturers. Sales were so successful that Abe encouraged his brother, Reginald to join him in 1925.  The partnership became known as Wurzburg Brothers Company.  This partnership proved to be a very successful one.  By 1958, the company expanded its offices in Memphis to include offices and warehouses in Nashville, Birmingham, and New Orleans.  For forty-two years the two Wurzburg brothers worked very closely until Abe’s death in 1967.  As Wurzburg, Inc. approaches its 100th year, Abe and Reggie’s commitment to innovation and service remains as our company’s guiding principle.
